Accents Etc

Accents Etc is a unique and enjoyable shopping experience. What appears to be a small shop on the outside is actually over 5000 square feet of artistically displayed merchandise. We have a wide selection of items, so chances are that everyone who enters the store can find something interesting. The store which originally opened its doors in June of 1990 has changed and evolved into what we have now. We have two entries, one on the south side and one on the north side.

If you enter through the south doors (formally The Book End) you will first encounter our large display of picture molding corner samples. When the store originally opened its doors it was primarily a picture framing shop and art gallery located on the north side. With the help of the owner, Betty Kenner or our newly trained picture framer, Angie Hershberger, we can design any custom-framing job that you might need. In this part of the store, we carry photo frames, prints and framed artwork.

Also through the south doors is the bookstore. This part of the business was purchased in June of 2004 from Pam Morello. At that time the north and south side of the existing store were combined with the re-opening of an entry that had existed between the two buildings. We offer a wide variety of books for children, teens and adults. We carry many works by Nebraska authors that you probably wouldn't find in your larger bookstores. We also have a section where you can buy or trade used books. If there is a book that we don't have, we can order it for you with no shipping cost. In this part of the store we have baby gift items and art glass.

If you enter the north side of the store you will be greeted by numerous displays of seasonal home decor, cards and gift items. At one time or another this part of the store has included a variety of different businesses and owners. Most recently, Wesk & Company (Sandy & Bill McConville) sold their business to Betty. In this part of the store we have many different sections. There is a women's section with purses, jewelry and bodycare. We have an area with wine racks, crystal dishes and glasses, collectible teapots and dinnerware. There is a kitchen section that has Nebraska & Kansas food products, kitchen towels, placemats, mixing bowls, casserole dishes, etc. We have an animal section with chickens, pigs, cows, frogs, ducks and John Deere items. There is a Husker section and areas with potpourri and four different candle lines.

As you continue on to the back of the store, you will find throws, doilies, quilts and angels. You will also find a full service flower shop that was recently purchased by Betty from D & D Floral ( Denise & Darryl Volquarden). Our florists, Cindy Shields, Mike Kohler or Betty can help you with a colorful and cheery fresh arrangement. We do flowers for weddings, funerals, birthdays, anniversaries, new baby, holiday center pieces or just because. We also have houseplants.

Past the flower shop are stairs that lead to the upper level. On this level you will find Americana, cookie jars, collectible Santas, more kitchen items and more home decor. We have a bridal and gift registry and in the center of this room we display the upcoming newlyweds gift choices.

Going back down the stairs, towards the front of the store you will find another set of stairs that leads to the lowest level of the store. Here you will find dolls, bears and children’s tea sets. There is an area with cowboy, fishing, and hunting items. There is another area with discounted items. We also have, on this level, different antique dealers. Besides, Accents Etc, the other dealers are George Huff with GB's Treasures, Judy Catt with Sisters Antiques and Erma Hinz. We have plans to expand the antique area under the bookstore, so look for that in the future.

Another event that many of our customers look forward to is our annual Holiday Open House. It is always held the first full weekend in November. There are over thirty trees decorated as well as tons of Santas, snowmen, Nativity sets and tons of great Christmas gift items. Our customers come from all over Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado to see our many wonderful displays. Be sure to get us on your calendar. Accents Etc and the staff invite you to come and visit us anytime for a fun-filled day of shopping with us and the other businesses on the bricks in Downtown McCook. We are located at 307 Norris Ave. Our hours are Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. We look forward to serving you.
