18th Annual Home & Builders
Show
Watch for the upcoming 18th Annual Home &
Builders Show facilitated by the Chamber of Commerce, and
coordinated by McCook’s Linda Frank, which is scheduled for
February 15, 16 and 17.
A new location will highlight the Show this
year. The Show will be held at the Army Reserve Training
building located on Airport Road in East McCook. Featured in the
Show will be over 80 Home & Builder businesses as well as 8-10
booths featuring home-based businesses and crafters. Be sure to
mark your calendars to attend this show to learn of all the
newest products available for any home building or improvement
project.
A nominal entrance fee of $2.00 for adults (12 &
under free with paid admission) will automatically qualify
visitors to enter a drawing for two $500.00 certificates which
can be used with any Home Show vendor listed on the certificate.
Plan to spend the day at the Home Show as there will be food
available on the premises.
Show coordinator, Linda Frank, is excited about
returning to the Army Reserve Building as there are large
overhead doors available for the vendors to bring in their
displays, better restroom facilities, and a much better location
for the food vendors. Doors will be open to the public on
Friday, February 15, from 4:00-8:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 16,
from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 17, from 11:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
83rd Annual Banquet
Scheduled in February
The 83rd Annual Chamber Banquet will celebrate,
on the evening of February 23, with a theme titled “Boot Scootin’
Boogie Banquet” and feature Western decor. Guests are invited to
come dressed for the occasion in their favorite blue jeans and
ropers, cowboy hats and big ‘ole’ belt buckles. The grub will
tantalize your tastebuds and fill you to the brim.
Organizers are having fun with the plans and
look forward to the change in pace from the past several years.
Cowboy Cal Siegfried will be ‘sheriff’ for the evening and may
just find a need to ‘detain’ a few unruly guests. Members of the
“Paint Your Wagon” cast will be performing numbers from the play
for your entertainment. Several annual Chamber of Commerce
recognitions will be awarded and the annual auction will be held
as a fundraiser to support the Chamber activities over the
upcoming year. Bids on auction items will be taken by Nebraska
Auction Service auctioneer, Johnny Walker.
Be certain to mark your calendar for this barn-bustin’,
boot-scootin’, fun evening! Contact the Chamber office for more
information at 345-3200.
Chamber AG Task Force
Assists McCook FFA
The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce Ag Task
Force showed support for the newly revived McCook FFA Chapter at
the 1st Annual Bison Ag Day on Wednesday, January 16, by
providing manpower to help with the event.
The FFA Chapter organized and planned a very
successful Ag Day which included informational booths manned by
area agricultural businesses, machinery displays and a series of
farm safety demonstrations for area elementary students. A live
labor auction of the FFA members capped the evening and provided
funds for future FFA projects. Both lunch and supper were made
available at the site by the Chapter members. The Chamber Ag
Task Force provided help with serving the meals and
registration.
The Chamber congratulates the students and their
sponsor, Crystal Adams, for organizing a very successful event.
Legislative Conference
Calls Begin
Thursday, January 17, was the first of a series
of conference calls with Senator Mark Christensen which will
continue throughout the 2008 legislative session. The 60-day
session is faced with a number of challenges and complex issues.
Chamber members and their guests are invited to attend the 8:00
a.m. telephone calls each Thursday morning at the Chamber
office. Those in attendance have the opportunity to ask
questions regarding issues of interest to them.
The Chamber encourages participation in these
weekly sessions. We each have a responsibility to stay abreast
of current issues so that we can intelligently address and
communicate concerns to our State Senator. For further
information regarding the conference calls, please feel free to
contact the Chamber at 345-3200.
